Cost: $240 members / $270 nonmembers per session. (Camps with field trips or extra supplies subject to additional costs as listed in camp descriptions.) Full-day camps run from 9 am–4 pm Campers must bring a bagged lunch * No camp on July 4. Reduced price for four-day camp: $190 members / $220 nonmembers.

Robotics Space Challenge

Join our crew as we train for a robotic journey to Mars. You will work with your mission crew to design your LEGO® Mindstorms EV3 rover, then investigate, observe, calculate, and apply your knowledge to solve specific tasks. Once your training missions are complete, your crew will be transported to our Martian landscape where you must work together using everything you've learned to complete a series of mission objectives.

River Camp

Hoist your sails and get ready to embark on an adventure along Pittsburgh’s three rivers. Get your bearings with a Just Ducky boat tour, then grab a paddle to kayak down the river. Step into the lab to carry out water quality testing, examine microscopic plankton, and study the life that calls the river home.

A long-time favorite! Explore the science of amusement parks as you discover the physics of your favorite rides, the math behind carnival games, and the sweet chemistry of cotton candy! Put that knowledge to good use as you conclude the week with a field trip to Kennywood.

Harness the power of electricity into fun and innovative forms. Explore conductivity, and make circuits out of Play-Doh, LEGO® blocks, and even paper. Experiment with alternative energy sources, and use Makey-Makey kits to add some simple programming to your projects!

Take your programming skills to the next level! Code and design animated shorts and platformer games in Scratch, then use a PicoBoard to physically interact with your creations. Create custom, quirky, and inventive game controllers out of pool noodles, vegetables, and more, using Makey-Makey technology.

Experience first-hand all of the new technologies Fab Lab Carnegie Science Center has to offer: 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, and other CNC machines. Learn the design software for both 2D and 3D machines and make daily projects to take home.

Fab Lab: Build Your Virtual World Camp

Get into the world of VR with this hands-on camp. Campers will design and fabricate their own personalized cardboard VR viewer and experiment with some cool VR software. Campers will also get a chance to adapt virtual worlds and create some of their own. *Campers should bring their own smartphone to this camp and have access to installing free apps.

Fab Lab: Girls Maker Camp

In this maker camp designed especially for girls, experience 3D printing, laser cutting and etching, and vinyl cutting in a friendly and fun atmosphere! Fab Lab Educators will work with the girls to create daily projects to take home.

What types of games and toys can be made with 3D printers, laser cutters, and vinyl cutting machines? In this camp, learn how to make some simple toys in the Fab Lab and then create your very own toy company, design a T-shirt, and manufacture personalized toys of your very own design.
