Almost Authors is a week-long creative writing camp for students entering grades 3 through 12.
A typical day at Almost Authors starts with a warm up: a short writing activity or game. Then we dive into exercises designed to let us experiment with elements such as character, description, dialogue, poetic forms, and much, much more. Students are encouraged to share work aloud, but it's not required. We break for a snack about halfway through, and often go outside for some lounging or gaga ball. After that, more writing! Depending on weather, we occasionally write outside on the lawn, but inside is cozy, with a spot for everyone whether you like writing at a desk or composing in a bean bag chair. During the week, we’re focusing on our writing process, but at the end of the week we choose pieces to revise and polish for an anthology of student work.
This is the 34th year we’ll have the great pleasure of spending the summer with talented young writers from all around Pittsburgh.We’d love for you to be a part of the experience this July.
