Phoebe is a little mermaid fascinated by human objects she finds in her ocean home. She longs to explore the world beyond the sea and she receives one chance to visit the surface on her birthday thanks to her father, King Pontus. Completely unaware to Phoebe, Chellan is the merboy next door and he is head over fins in love with her. Chellan follows her to the surface during a bad storm where he watches Phoebe heroically rescues the human Prince Terra from a shipwreck. Taking advantage of this situation, Persephone, an evil octopus sea witch, uses Phoebe’s desires as leverage over the sea king. She transforms Phoebe into a human in exchange for her voice where she must make Prince Terra fall in love with her to remain human. There is just one problem, Prince Terra has fallen in love with the human Princess Penelope before Phoebe arrives on land. Full of humorous supporting characters and charming musical numbers, this adaptation of the Hans Christian Anderson classic premiering at South Park Children’s Theatre will delight audiences of all ages.
