Shakespeare through Hip Hop with Pittsburgh Public Theater's experienced teaching artists in this summer session for students in grades seven through 12. Campers will spend this half-day morning camp experiencing Shakespeare through the eyes of hip hop. This class will serve as an introduction to Shakespeare with a hip hop twist providing a foundation for students who wish to explore acting using techniques and exercises, including dance, as a part of self-discovery and self-expression. The class will also use drama as a therapy through the power of storytelling, role-playing, and creative writing to facilitate personal growth and healing.

Pittsburgh Public Theater now offers summer camps and sessions for children, teens, and adults! Our 2024 Summer Sessions span seven weeks and include options for all ages. Summer sessions for grades K-6 begin the week of June 18 and the week of July 16 for grades 7-12. After signing up for one of our summer sessions, you'll receive an email from us with detailed information about the camp and logistics.

Our summer sessions at Pittsburgh Public Theater are facilitated by highly qualified teaching artists and support staff from our education and engagement team. All staff members interacting with your kids will undergo FBI fingerprint background check, Act 33 Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, and Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Record checks as described in Act 34. We prioritize safety and personalized attention for every camper. Each summer session will have a minimum of two instructors present, maintaining a favorable staff-to-student ratio. Additionally, our sessions have a maximum capacity of 20 students to ensure quality interaction and supervision.

Before the start of your camper's session, you will receive a link to a form where you can provide us with any necessary medical information, including allergies and medication details. Your child's safety and well-being are our top priorities, and we strive to accommodate all needs.

Scholarships are available to Pittsburgh Public Theater Summer Sessions. Contact Dominique Briggs at dbriggs@ppt.org.
