VIRTUAL EVENT: ($30) Media Lab Presents Virtual Programs - from Sarah Heinz House

Our first opportunities are under our Media Lab program umbrella.
Youth in 5th-12th grade may sign up for one of four classes.
The four classes on offer:
Design Factory: Wed 5:30-7 pm
– taught by Program Director Kyle Glaser, retired Carnegie Mellon University professor Deborah Lange, and Army Corps of Engineers member Sarah Stephenson, DF members will learn about bat houses, built their own house, and work on an environmentally-friendly plan for bat house deployment at our Resident Camp facility.
Intro to Dungeons and Dragons: Wed 7-8 pm
– taught by instructor Dean Focareta, members will learn the basics of tabletop roleplaying through a D&D starter kit. Mr. Dean held an advanced version of this course for “Dungeon Masters” this winter and it was extremely successful!
Intro to E-Textiles: Thurs 7-8 pm
– taught by instructor Sophia Bender, E-Textiles members will use materials in their kit to build circuits in textiles and garments, combining sewing, LED lights, and fabrics to make incredible creations!
XR Lab: Tues 7-8 pm
– taught by Public Studio founder and Pittsburgh STEAM education-leader Heather Mallak, XR Lab members will use Google Cardboard kits to explore augmented and virtual reality!
Design Factory will begin on April 15th and run through May 13th.
All other programs will be four weeks only, beginning the week of April 20th and ending the week of May 11th.
Members will utilize video chat software to participate in programs. Follow-up correspondence with instructions for downloads will be sent before the first class to registered parent email addresses.
Zoom meeting details will be shared with registered members before class and physical kits will be distributed at our main facility on Pittsburgh's Northside.
