Independence Day Celebration at Meadowcroft

Clark 125th Anniversary | Beta Scorpii | June 17 at 9:30pm PT from Lowell Observatory

Join us for a Livestream celebration of the 125th anniversary of the historic Clark Refractor! The program runs from 9:30-10:15 pm PDT and includes: Lowell Historian Kevin Schindler will discuss ways the Clark dome has been rotated through the years, including on pontoons in a trough of saltwater! Lowell educators at the Clark Refractor will share live views of the star Beta Scorpii, the object that Dr. VM Slipher studied more than a century ago in proving the existence of interstellar gas. Lowell Astronomer Dr. Kyler Kuehn will join Schindler to discuss the relevance of Slipher’s discoveries to modern-day research, particularly Kuehn’s work with the Dark Energy Survey and the Southern Stellar Stream Spectroscopic Survey.

We'd like to show our appreciation for all of those hard working dads out there! Fathers accompanying their families ride for free on Father's Day! Our premier ATV, dirt bike, and side by side riding resort and campground, has the only underground riding in the Northeast! Mines & Meadows ATV/RV Resort in Wampum, PA offers ATV and dirt bike enthusiasts in Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio a truly unique experience. With over 84 miles of recreational trails on 877 acres of land, we cover the full spectrum of riding skills from beginner through advanced. We have also added more than 8 miles of new single track (dirt bike only) trails that will test even the most experienced riders. While our trails do provide tremendous challenges, we work hard to keep them groomed for safety.

Snowball Day at Carnegie Science Center

It's time for snowballs in the summer! A Science Center visitor-favorite event is back! Share some fun with Dad! All visitors who bring in a snowball on Sun., June 20 will pay $5 for general admission tickets for the day. Tickets are limited, so don't get left out of the cold! Buy your tickets online. Launch your snowball with a slingshot at our Snowball Launch Site. Learn about potential and kinetic energy by designing a catapult. Investigate how quickly heat is transferred through two different materials. Explore snowy science in our demonstration theaters. All activities are included with general admission.
