What does your DNA say about you? Campers grades 9th - 12th are invited to join us on a week-long, immersive ancestry analysis that teaches them to look at their own ancestry and learn the techniques used in the process. In our camp, students will learn the process of examining genetic markers (such as mitochondrial variant HVR-1), starting by harvesting DNA, and then amplifying genes through PCR, purifying the PCR product, running sequencing reactions, obtaining the data, and finally analyzing it to identify their own lineage through analysis of genetic databases. By the end of this experience, campers will walk away with both an understanding of DNA analysis, and unique, individualized knowledge about their own genetic makeup.
